Two really interesting tracks, on the more downtempo side this time.

First up is a track from UNKLE released late(ish) last year called Heavy Drug (Surrender Sounds Mix). A rework of the version that appears on the album Where Did The Night Fall, it's a slow burning chill-out masterpiece. Definitely worth listening to.

Next is a remix of a song by Silver Columns called Cavalier. The "Time And Space Machine" remix has a slow bubbly beat underneath interesting lyrics delivered in a deadpan and effortlessly cool manner.

Everything moves in cycles. Where a few years ago the best songs were ones with slick production values and bells and whistles, now everything is stripped down and raw. One only needs to glance at The xx and Mumford & Sons to see exactly what I mean.

So embracing the spirit of the age, here are some new tracks that I've been listening to over the past couple of months that I think sum this methodology up perfectly.

BLUEBERRY

Blueberry is here. And despite having to double check through various sources to ensure it was actually was Late Of The Pier I was hearing; I'm liking it a whole bunch. The opening moments convey glimpses of their frenetic and chaotic sound, but then everything melts away into a Beatles-esque acoustic downtempo vocal verse. The chorus then builds into a Midnight Juggernauts inspired space synth frenzy. Were it not for the complete breakdown into insanity in the final moments, you'd be forgiven in thinking that Late Of The Pier had grown up. Thank christ they haven't.

Finally, courtesy of Bicardi's B-Live Originals, Van She's cover of (Don't Fear) The Reaper has a non-radio rip form. Most people have this song by now, but far less have the 320kbps version without the fade in/outs and Triple J presenter's unwelcome presence. So here it is, enjoy.
